Honey anyone

A couple weeks ago we were invited to a friends house to watch them extract honey from their honeybees. It was so interesting.
Their hives in a protected area on their property.
They had to put an electric fence around it to keep the bears out

The bees become more active during this process

Combs full of honey

Taste testing

MMMMMMMMMMM Good!

Ms.T helping Tayler take the wax caps off the comb

The Extractor held 4 boards and you cranked a handle to spin it.
The honey all collected in the bottom

Dylans turn

Honey MMMMMMMMMMMMM

As Will called it - Liquid Gold! and soo yummy - we were lucky enough to be given a jar and it was gone in two days it was so good.
May be a new project in the future.

Redneck Regatta

In August the Community of Forest Grove held the Redneck Regatta at Ruth Lake. The 5 teams had to build a boat in a designated amount of time and float them around a barge and be the first back on shore to ring the bell on the beach. Auntie Kathy and I took the kids out to watch the first annual race - it was hilarious! and so much fun on a hot afternoon!
Here is one of the contestants - they were called all in the Family - the men had overalls and straw hats on - at the back there was a bucket with a toilet seat on it - it was so funny!

Here are the Groovey Grovers styrofoam and empty water jugs

This one won - styrofoam, cardboard, a plastic cover and lots of duct tape

Auntie Kathy enjoying the water with Tay and Russ

Another entry built with empty milk jugs and netting to keep it all together

The barge they had to go around - once the race started and the contestants were almost to the barge  the guys on the barge turned the firehose on them it was hilarious

And they are off!

New toys for the Boys

Not only have the kids had one of the best summers even for visitors and having fun but they also bought themselves motorbikes! Here is Russ on his 100cc (ekk too big if you ask me) but hes getting used to it. So far I haven't been able to catch Dylan for a picture but his is a black 150cc They love them and ride them when even they have 5 minutes!

Trip to Barriere for the Fall Fair

Over the long weekend Tay and I went to Barriere (2 hours east of 100 Mile) to see the Fall Fair. We had so much fun. We met up with our friends Frankie, Aaron and Sam, checked out all the sights at the fair watched Aaron team roping in the rodeo, saw trick riders entertain the crowds and watched the VERY fast pony chariots - they are crazy fast. We saw kids showing their 4-H projects (sheep and cattle), we looked at all the entries for the crafts and veggies and baking.
Tay trying her hand at milking a cow (Aaron sneaking up on her in the background)
In this barn the 4-H clubs were showing their cattle and sheep. They were groomed and beautiful - I said to Sam looking at them as they are now I would really like to have one...

We couldn't resist petting the little nose of this piglet

Tayler hanging out with Rooster after his two runs. She even got to give Rooster a bath to cool him off.

Some funky chickens and geese - this one looks like he had his feathers put on backwards

It was a huge Fair and so much fun - we even had the hugest Ice Cream cone to try stay cool in the 34 degree heat!

A day with Tay

Last Saturday Tay and I spent the day together. She came with me to work then we headed off for some adventures around the area.
First stop was the library to get some movies and magazines for the weekend, then we were off to find some garage sales and a thrift store in 70 Mile.
Sugar Shack in 70 Mile - they sell REAL maple syrup, and a few other Eastern Canada treats!

POUTINE!! Real Poutine - it was huge and Tay and I LOVED IT!!

The storm we had to drive back through on the way home! Right as we were leaving a lightning hit the ground

Downpour of rain in 100 Mile House - there were rivers on the side of the road!

So cute!

Back to normal harmless skies again! Whew!

Mount Begbie

Last weekend I took the kids to the lookout up Mount Begbie. Every time we pass it coming home I want to go up and have a look. At the top you can see 9,000,000 hectares
of the Cariboo! Perfect Place for a fire lookout!

It was a steep uphill climb! The highway below!

Russ and his buddy Jeremiah checking things out

The boys had to climb the super steep part!! This is a close up

They are up at the top of this trial - Ekk - Tay and I decided to stay on flatter ground!
